Thank you for the thoughtful article. My wife and I just spent two months in Croatia and connected with the local LGBTQ groups to understand their circumstances and ask how we could help as allies. They’re making progress and you’re right, international pressure is hugely important. Thanks again and happy travels! Don

Kudos to you both for tackling a tough question. Istanbul is a terrific place that I enjoyed immensely. Would one find or attend a 'drag brunch' there? Maybe, or probably not. Ditto for Hungary or the UAE. Is it still possible to recognize or connect with others? Absolutely, and that is partly what makes travel to certain areas like these worthwhile. Onwards.

Good for you both! Sounds like you guys do your best to be part of the community you are in, which makes you great travelers! People look at us strangely as a married couple in our 50’s traveling. We just smile and comment on something beautiful we have seen in the area.
